Course Description: Building your own classroom web page used to
be challenging and only for the most skilled web page builders. However, with
the new district web page building program, it is now a project that every
educator can learn. Teachers will learn to build a functional, beautiful, and
beneficial class website with the Lander County School District’s newly
purchased Weebly Campus Edition for Districts and Schools web page builder to
enhance teaching, celebrate learning, and increase parent-teacher
communication.

Time: Tuesdays 4:15 pm to 5:15

Dates: (October 15, 22, November 5, 12, 19, Dec 3, 10, January 7,
14, 21, 28, February 4, 11, 18, 25, March 4, 11 (make up class)

To qualify for credit,
Southern Utah University requires that learners must complete 15 hours of
contact time per credit hour in any given course.
Fee: General Professional Development: $21
Attendance: If you are taking the class for SUU credit, please
attend for 15 hours. There will be make-up classes after the last formal class,
if needed.
Final Assignment Portfolio: Create and share a class web page
that meets the needs of you, as a teacher, and the needs of your students and
parents. Add educational links, work-sharing, and other functional items to make
an easily navigated and beneficial
website.
Expected Learning Outcomes: Students will be able
to:
1. Create a classroom website using Weebly Campus Edition for
Districts and Schools web page builder.
2. Choose a web page template. Design for beauty and
function
3. Follow copyright laws for use of graphics and
photos.
4. Create a home page and other pages, as
needed.
5. Insert Titles, texts, images and
graphics
6. Size and color fonts
7. Obtain parental permission for use of photos and videos
8. Insert columns and dividers
9. Create your own graphics in Photo Shop or PowerPoint
10. Purchase or find free graphics and photos
11. Lock a page so it is password protected
12. Create photo galleries and slide shows with links
13. Add a page, delete a page, and copy a page
14. Add drop-down menus with links
15. Add buttons with links
16. Insert a search box, document, calendar, or map
17. Create and insert audio files
18. Create and insert video files with the school cameras
19. Make and insert a contact form and assignment form
20. Insert appropriate youtube videos.
21. Use Flash in fun ways to enhance your website
22. Insert a block quote, poll, and RSVP form.
23. Add a blogging site for students. Create and add blogging rules.
24. Make a class page to post student writing
25. Help younger or older students create their own page to post their writing.
26. Share, with pride, your very own, class website.
Class Schedule
Class 1: Discussion of how a district-wide web site can help our
district, schools, and community. The ease of use with Weebly School District
web page building. Web page design options. Using balance, design and color for
beauty and function. Following copyright laws. Choose a design. Changing designs
to meet your needs.
Class 2: Inserting titles and text. Changing font colors and
sizes. Using font enhancers. Formatting a page. Inserting columns. Inserting
dividers. Free and commercial sites for graphics and
photos.
Class 3: Obtaining permission from parents for use of their
child’s picture. Locking a page so it is password protected. Inserting an image.
Inserting an image and text. Using Photo Shop or PowerPoint to enhance images or
combine them with other images. Making buttons with images. Adding links to
images. Saving graphics in JPEG.
Class 4: Discussion and examples of photo gallery and slideshow
themes. Inserting a gallery of photos. Inserting a slide show. Adding links to
galleries of photos and slide shows.
Class 5: Adding pages. Copying a page. Deleting a page. Adding
drop-down menus.
Class 6: Inserting and enhancing buttons. Linking buttons.
Linking search box. Inserting a map. Inserting a
document.
Class 7: Discuss ways teachers could use audio files. Making and
Inserting audio files.
Class 8: Discussion of how we could use a contact form. Inserting
a contact form. Discussion of how students can submit assignments on the
teacher’s website. Inserting an assignment form for students to submit
assignments.
Class 9: Discussion of what videos from youtube might be
appropriate. Permission to use a video on your site. Inserting a video from
youtube. Inserting a youtube video on your

Class 10: Fun ways to use Flash to enhance your
website.
Class 11: Inserting a block quote. Inserting a poll. Inserting an
RSVP form.
Class 12: Teaching students how to be good “bloggers”. Posting
rules of courtesy on school blog sites. Inserting a blog page. Discussion about
dangers of social icons. Turning off social
icons.
Class 13: Making a page for student writing. Permission to post
student writing. Bring student writing, with writer’s permission, to post on
writer’s page.
Class 14: Teaching younger and older students how to make their
own page for student writing. Discussion about rules for editing and screening
student writing before the page is
published.
Class 15: Show off class web pages. Discussion about how to build
school and district strength though celebrations on the schools’ web sites.
Being a part of writing short articles and sending in photos, videos, etc. for
your school website.
